This winter, 3 brave and outrageously silly souls will brave vast and cold deserts for adventure. Fisch, Teddi and Nickers will be crossing the Strzelecki Desert in the middle of Australia by motorcycle. We have no grand reason or drive - simply that we were in need of badenture and an amazing opportunity presented itself to us.
Why not cross a completely empty desert in the WINTER? And then head further south through some amazing national parks and also attempt a WINTER crossing of the alpine way on our motorcycles? Like I said we are 3 outrageously silly souls that have come together from all around the world. Nickers is from South Africa, Teddi is from America and well of course Fisch is the token Aussie. We'll be leaving at the end of June 2015 and will tackle over 5000km of desert, dirt, road and snow (in order of most to least fun-ness...). We'll be reporting in regularly from the track to show you our progress too! I'd also like to share a very special thank you to Gondwana, Kaos Snow, Globetrekker, One Less Nude and XTM who are supporting us to help make this adventure happen. Without these fine people we would be doing this trek cold, wet, naked and out of fuel half way across the desert. Be sure to check in for more updates prior to our departure in a month! It’s the not knowing, the unplanned adventures that really make living special for me.
If you don’t have grand expectations and plans you will never cease to be amazed by the beauty of the world and those that are in it with you. I’ve been fortunate enough to travel to some of the most spectacular parts of the world with some of the most amazing people in the world. Yet I never cease to be amazed at how much better it keeps getting with every passing moment. I could never have planned in a million years to be where I am now – and I’m glad I didn’t try. Kristan Fischer One Less Nude is a less is more approach to hand printed street wear proudly designed and produced in Australia by none other than the amazing Brad. Brad is a fellow badenture buddy of mine who I have been lucky enough to know and adventure with for many years. I'm stoked to be sponsored by One Less Nude and be their very own ADVENTURE JUNKIE!
Check out their very new site and product lineup fresh off the printing press! My good friends over at One Less Nude have just launched their adventure site and newest product lineup. Check them out here!!! http://www.1ln.com.au/1ln-adventure/ It's been a truly magical experience these past few months in America. From driving and exploring Utah, Arizona and Colorado in my shaggin' wagon for 8000 miles, to backcountry skiing ventures and of course Paramotoring my way through canyons, deserts and over some absolutely stunning scenery. Ryan Shaw of Paradrenalin has done an absolutely amazing job in training me to fly and help prep me for my Icarus Trophy race at the end of the year. Day after day we'd be out flying every sunrise and sunset that we could and exploring the magic of powered paragliding flight.
I've been so amazingly fortunate to be training under the best of the best with the greatest equipment too. I'm absolutely stoked to be partnered with Ryan for the race and to be coming back again in September for some more race training and skill sessions prior to our race in October. So in finality a massive thank you and shout out to all my supporters who have helped make this training trip literally a flying success; Ryan Shaw of Paradrenalin, Dudek Paragliders, Nirvana Paramotors, Gondwana clothing, XTM Performance baselayers and gloves, Flytec flight instruments, One Less Nude street clothing, Globetrekker adventure gear suppliers and Kaos Snow gear and equipment. Things are starting to heat up on the media front. I've just been notified that I've been published in Adventure Travel Magazine in the UK and also in the International Free Flying Magazine - XC Mag for my upcoming Icarus Trophy race. Check this link out for the brief plug in XC Mag
The season for training is quickly closing out and I must soon return to Australia for the winter. To date I've had an amazing time flying with Ryan Shaw of Paradrenalin and learning from him in the Arizona desert. I have just a week left of flying before I have to start the long, long crawl back home to Aus but I intend to keep flying as much as I can while the weather holds up.
I'll absolutely be back again in September to fly with Ryan prior to the Icarus Trophy Race. From high in the skies of Arizona, Fisch During my travels I am constantly amazed at the fact that I am fortunate enough to meet so many radical people and the adventures I'm able to share with them. I love that you never know when you're going to just run into them but that they are always out there and will irrevocably change your life in a moments' flash. Well recently Taco came into my world and we've been having some rad adventures and exploratory missions ever since.
Everything from free climbing and summiting gnarly mountain peaks in the middle of the night to descending the Grand Canyon, Paramotoring high over the Arizona desert or sneaking up into the snowy mountains to exercise some trash bag sledding debauchery. Over the last few weeks life has been full of hectic amazing-ness! I've been flying my little heart out with world champion paramotor pilot Ryan Shaw who is busy training me for the Icarus Trophy later this year, hanging out at a rad dropzone with some super cool people and then fitting in as many misadventures as I can when the weather is too poor for flying. With the weather in Phoenix not co-operating for PPG flying I decided to make a quick getaway north to Utah and find some hidden wonders. Wonder is an absolute understatement for what I found. I stopped off firstly in Zion National Park with the goal of making the summit on Angels' Landing. So at "O dark hundred" I set off on my ascent keen to make the sunrise at the peak. For 1500 vertical feet I huffed my way up I quickly realised there were other headlamps further up the mountain that I so I pushed on harder and managed to make the first ascent of the day and have the entire landing to myself for sunrise which was nothing short of magical.
On the way home I detoured to find some slot canyons and have an explore. It was a little intimidating being in Navajo land but found some real beauties. Check out the photos below! Now I'm back in Phoenix and just playing the waiting game for the winds to die down enough for Ryan and I to take to the air in our powered paragliders! Here's hoping for some aerial adventures soon!! So I've been gone a couple weeks now on my roadtrip with my shaggin wagon and I'm having a blast shenaniganising and exploring my way around America. I started in some way out hidden gems in the south of Utah, then out East to the Colorado Rockies, South to Arizona to find some magical peaks to summit and now I'm on my way back to Utah to play in Zion National Park for a week and check out some slot canyons too!
Unfortunately the weather hasn't been 100% co-operative for paramotor flying so I have had to delay my training for another week. But come this time next week I should be flying high with Paradrenalin! After an amazing week of skiing and hanging out in my little mountain paradise that is Park City it's time to hit the real adventure. In the morning I will be driving south in my van and headed to some of the greatest natural wonders on the planet and doing my very best to explore and adventure my way through them.
Though there is no strict itinerary, I do have some benchmarks that I want to hit. They include, Zion, Bryce, Arches and Canyonlands National Parks, taking a small detour via the Colorado Rockies, venturing deep into some hidden sandstone squeezes and exploring some truly magnficent waterfalls. I can't wait to see what misadventures await me over this next month! |
